Blog Post 2: Huck Finn Response (Chp 13-Chp 17)

In Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck, the protagonist, Huck, is greatly influenced by four people: Widow Douglas, Tom Sawyer, Pap, and Jim.
Widow Douglas influenced Huck Directly by getting him into school giving him new clothes, and giving him morals on life. She indirectly influences Huck by making him go to school and when his father asks him to read he knows how to. A quote that supports direct influences Huck is “She put me in them new clothes again, and I couldn't do nothing but sweat and sweat, and feel all cramped up.” This can be found on page one. A quote that supports Huck indirectly is “I took up a book and begun something about General Washington and the wars.” This can be found on page 15.
Tom Sawyer has influenced Huck directly by making Huck do certain things, and making him go on an adventure. Tom Sawyer indirectly influences Huck when Huck refers to him saying “Tom sawyer would do this, so Huck does it. A quote that supports Huck directly and indirectly from Tom Sawyer is “Tom and me found the money that the robbers hid in the cave, and it made us rich. This can be found on page one.
His pap directly influences Huck not to go to school because his mother and father couldn't read. Pap indirectly influences Huck by telling him to barrow things and he remembers this when Jim and Huck need food. A quote that supports Huck directly is “It’s so. You can do it. I had my doubts when you told me. Now looky here; you stop putting on frills. I won’t have it. I’ll lay for you, my smarty; and if I catch you about that school I’ll tan you good." This can be found on page fifteen. A quote that supports "Pap always said it warn't no harm to borrow things, if you was meaning to pay them back, sometime;." This can be found on page forty-nine.
Jim directly influences Huck by teaching him his superstitions. Jim indirectly influences Huck by Huck thinking about why he saved Jim. A quote that supports Huck directly"he made me take off the rattles and tie them around his wrist, too." This can be found on page forty. A quote that indirectly supports Huck is"Why, me. I couldn't get that out of my conscience." This can be found on page sixty-sixty.
Without these key influences in his life, Huck would be a very different person.

Huck Finn Response (chp. 1-12)

In Huck Finn, Huck is living with widow Douglas and he has six thousand dollars. Huck is now going to school and dressing proper. Huck has a feeling that his pap is coming back for his money. Huck went to the judge and gave him the money instead of lying to his pap. When Huck got home he found pap in his room. Huck was living with pap now and in the woods. Huck was always locked in the cabin, so Huck faked his death. Huck was going down river and found Jim. The two were now going to experience new things and ran into some problems.
I like the book so far. I like how detailed the book is and all the dialects they talk in. Its very interesting to see how many ways someone can talk and write like. Compared to Of Mice & Men I like Huck Finn better. The two books are similar in many ways. They both are adventures two people go on and they in counter many problems along the way. They are in countering different things and why they are traveling, Huck and Jim were escaping and George and Lennie were looking for work.
